Educating kids about finance early on is great. I am terrible with finance nitty gritty and I try to get more and more educated every day. I even made a website site about it to try and help others!

Thanks for the finance tips

Well, our son is 6, so we started pretty basic. He gets $1 per week allowance. That's his to do with as he pleases, but Mom and Dad have cut WAY back on buying him toys and games (outside of birthdays and Christmas.) He also can earn $0.25 helping me with dishes and laundry. He has found that he really wants to buy a new computer game. Reminding him that he has to save his money has prompted him to come ask me "Mom - do you want me to help with the laundry?" It's great!

I also agree that educating kids is great. At a minimum, I think it needs to be part of at least every high school cirriculum so that as soon as kids march off to college they aren't jumping into all those "great credit card offers" with no education about how NOT to use them.

Thank heavens, it is never too late, and you don't have to have much money, to teach them a great lesson.
When my son was 20 he and his girlfriend moved back "home" to my house. They had not been successful at finding jobs, and "... well, lets just move in with my folks..." he said.
After watching them sleep-in til noon and read the classifieds for a week, while I worked my three menial jobs, I said I would hire each of them at $50 a week for an 8-hour day, 5-day week.
Their JOB was to get a real job. We planned their days so they could see how to get a job and enjoy it at the same time.
They each had a job within two weeks. Then we each put 5% of our pre-tax income into a regular savings account to be split three ways when they moved out. We had $500 each, a year later. Too bad I didn't know about other investment opportunities then.
Now I am hiring my grandaughter, and starting earlier.
Thanks for your encouraging words.
