I love the first quote you've got at the end of the post, it's so true that delaying will have some serious impact. My current retirement portfolio has grown by itself at a rate of 9-11% per year. I figured that by the time I'm ready to retire this will grow into a substantial amount that will likely carry me through at least a significant part of my retirement (thankfully my previous employer thought about this for us and contributed)

"Every six years you delay funding your retirement you cut in half your standard of living during retirement. Money makes money, and most of the assets you use to fund your retirement will come from compounded growth - not contributions."

That is one of the most powerful quotes on retirement I have ever read. I should have started 6 years earlier!
