As I've said probably a million times by now, I'm a big fan of index investing. So when I read The Bogleheads' Guide to Investing, a book all about the philosophy and rationale behind index investing, I was in hog heaven.
The book starts off with general, practical investment advice such as spending less than you earn, investing early and often in your life, and knowing what you're buying. It then plunges into the case for index funds -- which is very similar to my post Why I Like Index Funds (Updated) (except with more details, explanation, facts, studies, quotes, and so on.) In short, it simply lays out the reasons why index fund investing works -- and does so in a very compelling manner.
For a bit more detail on what the book offers, see my detailed review of Chapter 9: Costs Matter If You Want to Maximize Investment Returns.
I think this book can change people's lives in a positive way and as such I'll be posting tidbits/quotes from it over the next couple of months in an effort to convince as many people as possible to buy it (like I did with The Millionaire Next Door last year). It's my belief that if everyone read this book and applied its teachings, they'd be much, much better off financially. Buying and applying the teachings in this book will give you an almost infinite investment return.
The Free Money Finance rating for The Bogleheads' Guide to Investing (based on my 0 thru 10 rating system) is: 9 Stars.
