In December I posted Ask Quicken Expert Anything You Like -- Free Money Finance Call for Questions for Quicken Product Manager and asked readers for their questions about Quicken. Those questions have now been answered by a Quicken expert, Quicken Product Manager Jim Del Favero. I'll be posting them -- one at a time -- over the next few weeks. Here's our latest question and answer:
Question: One important thing I remembered, please provide Color Highlighting of Transactions. Ex: I want to highlight all my SALARY transactions with blue color in the ledger, I can not do that now. This helps to distinguish the transactions visually on one look at the ledger.
Jim Del Favero: Good suggestion, we added notes and flags a couple of years ago, so you can flag a transaction with a particular flag color but that is rather small. You can also attach a note to a transaction, or a note/flag with a date reminder as well. All of those are smaller notifications that you can miss when quickly scanning your register.
We looked at different colors for transactions but ran into a problem. Currently you can change the color of a register. So what about when someone wants to highlight in one color when the register is in another? We could do it, but it would probably entail turning off register colors, or limiting them in some way when someone wants to highlight a transaction. In the end the colored flags seemed to get us part of the way there without disrupting existing functionality.
