Become a Millionaire by Turning Your Hobby Into an Income
In $10k Challenge: Turn Your Hobby into an Extra Income I suggested that we all could pad our pockets a bit this year by making money from our hobbies. Then I read a piece about someone who did just this -- yet she took it to an extreme. In the end, her hobby made her a millionaire (her company is valued at $10 million). She's now written a book about it (of course) and is making more money (the company's website has details on the book) Here are some thoughts from the book's introduction:
“How did you turn that kitchen table idea of yours into a million dollars?” It’s a question I hear everywhere I go as I tour the country on business as President of Green Daisy, Inc. Whether I’m at tradeshows in cities across the U.S. or at lectures I give to women’s and community groups, everyone wants an answer to that question!
It became clear to me that there was a real need for a How to Make a Million Dollars book. You don’t need to be the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs to make a million dollars on the next big thing. Becoming a millionaire is not about luck, being a genius, or having any special talents. You don’t have to be selling the next high-tech invention to get rich. You can do it with something as simple as a Wuvit®! What’s a Wuvit? A simple little gift I made at my kitchen table that I turned into a million dollars in just over three years.
Wouldn't we all like to be in her shoes -- taking something we love to do and making a fortune off of it? Well, some of you reading this can certainly do so (be sure to remember me when you make it big!) And many others can add a substantial amount of money to your annual income if you simply take a few steps to turn your hobby into an income.
Let's see, which should I pick:
- Writing?
- Growing roses?
- Cycling?

Now if I can just find someone willing to pay me to sit on my ass and watch reruns of Scrubs. This is gonna be so awesome!

Do you grow roses, for real? I love plants and have been growing roses, and all sorts of stuff, names I don't know (some I do such as plumbagos, lantanas, princess flowers, ferns, etc). I just plant them and look at them a lot.

I'll certainly remember you when I make it :) I just started a blog and loved your advice about how to build a successful one in another article. So, I'm trying to now turn a hobby into a million dollars. Wish me luck! Thanks again for the help!

I know a few things about coins (I used to collect them as a kid) but, unfortunately, the government won't let me make any. (Or fortunately, in my case, because it is difficult and exacting work and I don't think I'd be good at it.)

I DO grow roses (and love it!) I talked about it a bit here:

FMF - supply sell your roses to a local flower shop. You can probably hold enough back to give to your wife and coworkers, and your local flower shop will pad your pocket with the rest. There you go, another few hundred dollars.

While I certainly have the quantity to do both, I'm not sure I have the quality (yet) to offer to a shop. But I'm getting there. ;-)
