Just to close the loop, based on your comments to Money Saving Tip: Steal Stuff, DigitalRich sent a check to the place that refused to ring up his items.
Good for him.

I am glad that he sent the check. No matter the behavior of the employees, taking something without paying for it is stealing from the store owner. Period. I am still amazed at the number of people in the comments who somehow morally justified stealing for convenience or out of spite.
I hope that the envelope included the date, time, and description of the event because the store owner does need to know about the lazy employees.
DigitalRich, FYI, I can't comment on your blog because the blogger popup comment window works horribly in FireFox.

He did the right thing. And the hard thing.
DigitalRich, if you read this, I want to say that I admire you. You are a great role model for your daughter.

Good for him for setting it right. When faced with that low level of customer service I usually do what he said in this follow-up post, leave a big pile right in the middle of the store.
