Continuing our conversation from yesterday on government waste: now 1,500 stimulus checks have been sent to the wrong accounts. Yes, it's a small amount of the total checks sent out, but still -- this is only one example of waste (there are many more as people noted yesterday) -- and this stuff can really add up!!!!

I still say you are complaining about the furniture being dusty when the wall has fallen over.

It's not government waste if one of those checks were sent to me ;)

Hard for me to get upset by this. I am more upset that because my AGI is > $75k I do not qualify for a stimulus check. Interestingly, those who pay the largest percentage of the taxes get nothing -- those who pay the least (or nothing at all), at least get something...

My newspaper didn't come this morning. It probably also went to the wrong address.
I don't subscribe to a government newspaper.

"I don't subscribe to a government newspaper."
Good thing you don't. It would probably cost $400 per year, have 4 pages, come once every other month, and contain useless information.
But you wouldn't have to worry about this. As long as you weren't "rich" (i.e. making over $40,000 per year), you'd get it for free.

FMF:
It's your blog and you're obviously entitled to your opinion about the government.
I don't share your view. And I think by not providing an even-handed comparison of government waste to that of business, charities and individuals, your current post is not up to your usual standards.

Here's the point:
the government is spending MY tax money. That's why I'm worried about/discussing it. If a charity or business wastes money, what do I care unless I'm an investor in it? And as far as individuals wasting money, I cover that topic all the time.

"this stuff can really add up!!!!"
So do unconstitutional pre-emptive wars.
Government intervention (foreign or domestic) = waste of resources.
RWH- Business is punished by the consumer for their screw ups. Government receives more money (increase taxes) to pay for theirs.

My point is simply that government doesn't have a monopoly on waste. And we can vote the "wasters" out of office just like we can take our business or contributions elsewhere.
