Yahoo lists three ways to make your boss love you as follows:
1. Document your accomplishments.
2. Document your attitude.
3. Make the grade.
I consider this list to be "ok", but I think the two ways to make your boss love you are:
- Do a great job (deliver more than what your job requires and your boss expects)
- Have a great attitude
If you do these two things, you'll go far. Very far. It really is that simple.
Of course, a lot of time and effort go into these -- especially the first one. So I don't mean to say that it won't take a lot of work. It will. But if you do these two things, your career will be very successful.

I agree with your list. Go the extra mile and do more than was expected of you. And be the person that not only your boss, but everyone in your department goes to when they want something done. Be the go to person!

I agree, it's definitely not hard to get ahead, you just have to be willing to work hard and make some sacrifices. Sadly, it's pretty easy to outwork most people. Work hard, work smart and like you said, have a great attitude and you'll go far.
Cheers!

Sometimes it is hard to do all of these things. Presently, my boss is being hard pressed by executive management and his subordinates (myself included). After his last review, everything began to change. Essentially, I find myself doing his job, and I think that his boss (the CFO), his boss's peer (COO), and his boss's boss (the president) see him as being as incompetent as I do.
I am definitely getting work done and surpassing expectations. And my attitudes towards others is generally quite good. However, my attitude with my boss is getting short, and I find it hard to have a conversation with him when we are in front of other people because I think is making a fool of himself and the only thing that comes to mind is to be blunt, but I don't want to ridicule him publicly.
An opportunity to grow, I suppose.

I've been doing these things, and more. It doesn't help, though, if HIS boss doesn't love you, and decides that it's just "easier" to find someone new. I've just been told that I'm not being extended in my current position.

I think that having a great attitude goes a long way. Too often people complain to their boss. This is almost always a mistake. Hold your complaints to the right time. When an appropriate time comes, you can bring up your grievances. But, bosses don't want to hear about them constantly.
