Not only does see id instead of a signature make the card invalid, but any merchant demanding ID when using the card is violating the merchant agreement. At least that's true for Mastercard, which I checked. I assume they're all the same. The only things a merchant can require are presentation of the card itself and a signature. When I'm asked for ID (or told I have to make a minimum purchase, or am charged more for credit than cash) I report those violations to Mastercard. Not sure what it accomplishes, but I do it anyway.

Other that that, these are all good reminders.

Great tips to be proactive when it comes to identity theft. Don't forget to know what is on your credit report too.

I am glad Mark and DCS got to it before me.

Do we fact check at all or is this the direction of quasi-journalism?

Some things I do -

-use FireFox instead of Internet Explorer
-VPN (virtual private network)while using public wireless
-Don't bank online while on a public internet connection

You can find good and free VPN software online...
