I would like to see you write more about your personal failures. Reading this series about your jobs, I get the impression that you have been a superstar everywhere you've worked, and things generally always worked out in your favor, something that is true for precisely nobody. Certainly it's possible to succeed in spite of everything going on around you, but unless you've been handed a family business right out of college, *everybody* has had major missteps along their career path that were entirely their fault, and not a reflection on their industry or company.

Just a constructive criticism. Keep up the good work, otherwise.

Ryan --

Really? Have you read all of them? Like the first job I failed in. The next job I was part of a bad promotional decision and was a casualty of the aftermath? Maybe I'm not going into enough detail on these, but I really can't -- otherwise the posts would be way too long.

BTW, I don't go into all the successes either -- this series is generally just a telling of what happened and what I learned.

And, for the record, things have always worked out in my favor. I didn't think so at the time, but even the bad things that happened did eventually lead me to a much better place.

I like these career posts. "First person" blog posts about personal experience are always more interesting than a bullet-pointed list of do's and don'ts IMO.

FMF,

I think you've been telling the ups and downs of your career pretty well. Strange situation you got yourself into... I did what you did with accepting a job and then turning it down to join another company, but that was at the beginning of my career out of grad school. Interesting you did it mid-career.

At the end of the day you need to look out for #1 as you say.

Looking forward to the next post in the series.

-Mike

I think I can understand where Ryan is coming from (though I don't necessarily agree). I think you managed to take any and all of the misfortune from your previous jobs and turn them into something positive and good. So I think it easily comes off as if you never had any career problems whatsoever.

But for what it's worth, I think that's a great way to approach it....if life gives you lemons, make lemonade right? :)

Great writing style - this is very useful stuff and it was easy to follow.

Thanks.

Hi FMF,

who cares what anyone (won't name names...above) says, your posts in general are sooo insightful and really, truly helpful and even inspirational. I appreciate them.

thanks!
Enno
