I had a taste of semi-retirement. I was put on a 32 hour work week instead of getting laid off for the whole summer by my employer. I liked having the fridays off with the family but did not like the paycheck every two weeks with 20% of it gone. Even though it did not damage us finacially it did put a crimp on us saving for college but it sure beat collecting unemployment.

Right now is not a time for me to be in semi retirement. Maybe in 10 to 15 years when things are better in balance, financial ducks more in a row, kids are out of college, house paid for, wife retired and I still have my health to enjoy things.

Not sure if I would classify 32 hours/week as semi-retirement. I mean, isn't that a full work week in France? :-)
