Here's a money saving tip for those of you who want to keep cool this summer without spending a fortune.
A significant amount of dollars can be saved by not cooling areas that don’t need cooling. As such:
- Close doors to seldom-used rooms and turn off air conditioning (or close vents) in these areas.
- Keep your closet doors closed, since there is no need to cool them.
- Turn off (or up) the air conditioner when nobody’s home. If you want your place cooled down by the time you get home, buy an air conditioner timer and set it to click on half an hour before you arrive.
- If you have window air conditioners, turn them off when a room will be vacant for a few hours. You’ll use less energy cooling the room down later than if you had left the unit running.
