Today is Hurricane Katrina Blog Relief Day with several bloggers dedicating the day to informing the public about disaster relief options to help those impacted by the storm. Here's what we're doing at Free Money Finance as part of this effort:
- I'm publicizing the efforts of my relief charity of choice, Samaritan's Purse. I've been part of their efforts for years and can speak to the impact they've had in helping people in desperate times.
- I'm kindly asking you to consider making a generous donation to this organization or your favorite relief charity. Here's a list of several charitable organizations helping out in the effort (scroll down a bit).
- We will continue to have personal finance related postings today, but I'll be updating this post so it will remain at the top of the home page for most of the day. If you want personal finance information, just look below.
- I'm matching gifts from readers of this blog up to $500 total. (You give to the charity of your choice, email me telling me the charity and the figure, and I'll give a corresponding amount to Samaritan's Purse.) Note: In addition to this amount, Denali Flavors, the makers of Moose Tracks ice cream and sponsor of this blog, has already pledged $5,000 to International Aid.

Update: Linking to the Beltway Traffic Jam.
I got a failure notice when I tried to email you; failure notice says
"The user does not accept email in non-Western (non-Latin) character sets."
Don't know what's going on there.
Emailed you to say: I donated $100 to the Red Cross.
Thanks for the match, what you're doing is great.

Meaghan --
Not sure what's going on either -- I got both your messages (and responded to one). Strange. Anyway, you were included in my 10 am update. Thanks for being so generous!!!
