Here's another post in our series on the learnings from the book The Millionaire Next Door. A quote from pages 36-37:
The affluent tend to answer "yes" to three questions we include in our surveys:
1. Were your parents very frugal?
2. Are you frugal?
3. Is your spouse more frugal than you are?
My thoughts: You can impact two of these three (assuming you aren't already married). You can't control whether your parents are frugal or not, but you certainly can control your own frugality as well as select a spouse who is frugal. Just food for thought!
Question 3 is weird. I would answer no, but my husband would answer yes (obviously I'm the more frugal of the two)... but if we were affluent, wouldn't we both be affluent?

I actually like question 3 ... if you always find your spouse is more frugal, that means you see something in your own spending that could be cut ... that means you are at least aware of the area where you can save more ...
I can imagine in some famliy where both the wife and husband will answer yes to the question.
