Here's a money saving tip that my wife swears by:
Shop in the men’s departments for clothing basics like socks, turtlenecks, etc. They are often cheaper than in women’s departments.
Who would have thought that the same thing (basically) would be higher priced in the women's department than in the men's? It probably goes the other way on some things too, but it's not like a man is on the lookout for a nice silk blouse or a basic black skirt. And even if he was looking for a "basic" item, it's unlikely that most men could find a size that would fit them -- while women can always find something in the men's department (unless they are very small).
...and the very small can often find the same basics in the boys department for much less ;) I'm only 5'2" and when I was younger (and oh about 30lbs slimmer) I used to be able to buy things like t shirts, sweaters and sneakers in the boys dept and it was less expensive. I bought a Kids XL blue cable knit wool sweater from JCrew that was basically half the price of the adult XS and as far as Icould tell...the same size.

Not only is the price better, you are more likely to find conservative colors and solid colors. That's frugal because the stuff matches and you can wear it year after year.
