Here's a Star Money Article that's all too relevant these days. It's simply titled "Why an Emergency Fund is Important". The sentence that summarizes the whole post is this:
This example (Hurricane Katrina) really drives home the importance of an emergency fund and further enforces our determination to save for the unknown.
The post then goes on to tell what the author is doing to set up his family's emergency fund.
It's a rather simple post -- nothing earth shattering -- but because of its timing, I just had to give it a Star. Please read it and consider what you should do regarding your own emergency fund.
I actually think a 6 month reserve is more appropriate.
