Money Central lists 50 ways to trim your budget.
Today we're reviewing some ways to lower your medical costs:
- Buy generic drugs.
- Look for free and low-cost clinics.
- Use urgent-care clinics rather than emergency rooms whenever possible.
- Ask for discounts when you pay cash.
- Carefully review hospital bills for errors.
- Monitor insurance claims to make sure they get paid.
My Mom always asks the doctor or at the desk as she leaves the doctor's office for samples of drugs that have been prescribed to her. Now they automatically give her samples at each visit. Even with insurance some of the drugs are pretty expensive. Of course she is a low income senior.
