Here's a tip that can save you money on entertainment costs:
Spend time at community events that often go unnoticed: Little League games, bingo nights, pancake breakfasts, Special Olympics and fundraisers.
Let me add one other item: soccer games. Our kids are both playing soccer this fall and I'm an assistant coach on both teams. This means we spend every Tuesday practicing and every Saturday playing games. This certainly provides a lot of entertainment (and exercise!) for little expense.
A side benefit of doing this is that you will meet people who share your interests. Networking is not just about finding jobs. It's about the people who will tell you where to get a good deal on a tent for your son's scout camp out. It's about getting recommendations on a good music teacher. It's about finding out which mechanics you can trust to give you the honest truth about your car.
