I have SPY in my portfolio as a buffer to gauge the market. I am also happy to receive a healthy dividend of 2% yield f0r the current price (when compared to the price I got in SPY, the yield is at 3%). In fact, I once read some investment strategy to call for an approach for the conservative investor to put 1/2 of their money in SPY, and half in TIP. Now that's a no-brainer, worry-free way to invest
