Here's a piece from a local TV station's website that proclaims "[home heating] prices may not skyrocket after all." The details:
Home heating expenses won't be as bad as we were first led to believe. The Federal Energy Information Administration revised its estimates of how much your heating bill will increase this winter.
If you use natural gas, expect to spend $281.00 more on average. Last month, a $306.00 surge was predicted. If you rely on heating oil, you'll likely spend $255.00 more, and not the $325.00 projected in November.
On the other hand, those who heat using electricity will see their bill increase by $46.00, as opposed to a $33.00 rise seen in November.
Officials say the change is due to the relatively warmer November nationwide.
Ok, I'm not sure what their definition of "skyrocket" is, but these numbers seem like steep increases to me. Maybe they're not as high as expected, but they're still high!
Is that an extra $281 per month, or over the whole winter season.

I think it's throughout the season. If it's per month, I'd need to find a cliff to jump off soon. ;-)

Mine went from $71 last month to $263 this month. 25CCF to 126CCF. Wife is positive that we got a leak somewhere. Certainly wasn't expecting such a huge jump and it hurts.
