The House approved a bill today that would exempt most middle class taxpayers from AMT.

AMT began as a means to collect taxes from wealthier Americans who were generating large amounts of tax-free income through investments like municipal bonds.

I know. That's why I added the "update" at the end. I wrote the entry the day before, before the legislation.
