Here's #8 in the list of the ten biggest issues/concepts/thoughts at Free Money Finance during the previous year: Pets.
I selected this category because:
- I wrote a lot about it.
- It's something that has a significant impact on finances, but most people don't treat it as such.
- It's controversial (and emotional for most people).
- It's generated a lot of discussion.
It all started when I wrote Cost of a Pet is $48,000!!! I talked about how much pets cost people. Little did I know. People responded and I then posted the financial pet horror stories they told me. From there, everywhere I looked, I seemed to find stories on pets and money. In case you missed any of these, here's the list of money-related pet stories:

In the end, owning a pet is a financial decision as well as a family decision, and of course it's your right to decide to have one (or several). I'm not saying you shouldn't. All I'm saying is that an animal will cost you $10,000 or more through it's lifetime and if you have 4-5 animals during your adult life, that's enough to buy two (nice) new cars, send a kid to college, or do whatever else you might like to do with $50,000 or so.
Just food for thought.
