Here's a simple but effective money saving tip for those of you who are trying to do everything you can this winter to hold down heating costs:
Use Venetian blinds to help keep energy costs down. In the winter they should be slanted, top to bottom, from indoors to outdoors to keep cool air behind the blinds.
We always keep ours slanted bottom to top -- so I guess we need to change that.
Also, open them during the day when the sun is on that side of the building, and keep them closed the rest of the day. That will allow the sun to warm up the inside of the room while not allowing the heat to escape when the sun is not shining there.

Or better yet, replace those blinds with cellular shades.
