Here's a no-brainer money saving tip:
Stop smoking.
I've posted on this a ton in the past including the following:
- Stop Smoking -- It's Killing Your Finances
- Comments: Stop Smoking
- Stop Smoking, It's Killing the Nation's Finances
- Don't Just Quit Smoking, Take the Next Step
However, there's a bit of new information I want to add to the mix. In the past, I've calculated the cost of the cigarettes and hinted at the costs of extra health care as a result of smoking, but I never had a good number for the medical cost portion. Now I do. Here is a stat from the January issue of Money magazine (source is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention):
The average smoker pays $1,600 more annually, on average, on health-care costs than a non-smoker.
So do your finances (and your body) a favor and quit smoking. You'll save lots of money and be rewarded with something money can't buy.
I dont smoke but I carnt stop chewing nicotine gum. I need to stop because it is going to effect the premium I pay on my life insurance.
