Looking for the perfect career? Or maybe a new career? This piece from Career Builder offers their thoughts on the nine steps to identifying the perfect career for you. Their thoughts:
1. What are you good at?
2. What interests you?
3. What motivates you and is most important to you?
4. How much money would you realistically like to earn?
5. What level of responsibility do you want?
6. Where do you want your ideal job to be located?
7. What special knowledge would you like to include in your career?
8. What kind of work environment do you prefer?
9. What types of people do you like to work for and with?
This is a pretty comprehensive list -- many more items than what the average person probably considers before he/she starts a career (or even changes jobs for that matter). And if it's a young adult just coming out of college, they often don't consider many of these -- and probably don't have the experience to answer most of them even if they did. I know I didn't -- I was mostly worried about #2 and #4 and that's it. But time and experience have shown me that the others are just as important.
I've mentioned often that your career is your most valuable asset and you need to manage it actively to maximize your net worth. Here are a few posts from Free Money Finance that will help you do this:
Something I've come to appreciate:
"10. Level of freedom to determine your hours?"
It's good for your motivation and enjoyment if you can make room to accomplish other life dreams beside your career. At least for me.
