I received a couple comments on my post titled Money Saving Tips: Cut Your Costs at the Gas Pump that offered additional ways to save on gas costs. Here's the first:
This might not be available to everyone, but there are some grocery stores which sell gas at a discount if you've bought groceries from them in the last month. Kroger is one in my area, and I think Wal-Mart does that as well. Also, I use a cash-back credit card. It's not a great comfort, but it's nice to know that when prices go higher, I'll be racking up more points.
Our local Meijer stores give out gas coupons every once in awhile, but it's not on a regular basis and can't be counted on. Besides, they are only for $1.00 at most, so they don't add up to much. The credit card idea is interesting, though I've got my credit card strategy fairly fine-tuned with the combination of a cash back card as well as one that handles my car repairs. My gas shopping solution: get gas at Costco, they'll save you a bundle.
I found the second comment very interesting:
Your driving habits make a huge difference in what gas mileage you get. I track my mpg on a regular basis and I drive a Focus that generally gets right around 30 mpg. Then I read an article about how to drive better to improve your mpg. I put some of the techniques into place and I actually got up to 34 mpg. That is a 13% increase!!! The basic idea was to remove rapid acceleration and deceleration.
Wow! I wonder if I can stop "gassing it" to save 13%. ;-)

Check out one of the sites tracking gas prices, such as GasPriceWatch (http://www.gaspricewatch.com/) or GasBuddy (http://gasbuddy.com/). They both depend on their users to submit updated prices. Think of it as a collaborative effort in maintaining a price notebook.
