Here's a comment to a post I wrote some time ago. It was titled Money Saving Tip: Maintain Your Stuff and suggested you could save money by taking care of your possessions, helping them to last longer. This commenter had a great example of doing this:
I totally agree with this. My great aunt had a sewing machine from 1970. It runs like a dream, because she took such good care of it. She's gone now, but the sewing machine is still in use. It can also be helpful to learn how to do minor servicing yourself, to save money. I know someone who does the routine maintenance on his cars, which can save a lot over time.
Yep. Our stuff routinely lasts several years longer than it's supposed to. Our washer and dryer lasted 15 years, our dishwasher lasted 17 years or so, our lawn mower is going at 14 years, and our furnace is on 20+ years (at this point, its efficiency could be costing us a fortune).
How about you? What do you have that's lasted a long time because you've taken care of it?
