Well, it's almost spring (in most of the U.S., it IS spring, but in Michigan, it's still just "almost" spring). ;-( And that means summer is right around the corner. As such, I wanted to share some money saving tips from Money magazine's April issue on how you can lower the cost of your kid's summer camp.
Their suggestions:
- Go later. July is peak season and some camps lower fees for August.
- Make it a quickie. One week stays are (obviously) cheaper than multi-week extravaganzas.
- Enroll early and often. Some camps give discounts when you enroll early and/or sign up more than one child for the camp.
- Grab tax breaks. Check with your tax preparer. If you have kids under 13 enrolled in a day camp, you may qualify for a tax credit.
We decided to pass this year on camp. The combination of our kids still being young and other vacation plans just didn't make the option viable this year. But I'm sure they will go next year, and we'll look to apply some of these tips towards spending as little as we can for a quality camp.
