Here's another addition to our never-ending list of ways to save on gas, this time from Bankrate:
1. Fill up with a lower-octane gasoline.
2. Don't top off.
3. Tighten up that gas cap.
4. Go for the shade.
5. Use your garage for your car.
6. Pump up your tires.
7. Keep your engine in tune.
8. Replace air filters.
9. Use the right oil.
10. Don't skimp on maintenance.
Here are my thoughts on each of these:
1. I do this -- I always go with the lowest octane gas.
2. Do this too. Rather, I don't do it. Don't top off, that is.
3. My gas cap clicks when it's on, so this happens very easily.
4. I park in the shade when it's available, but it's not always an option. I do get to work first in our office and thus get the spot next to the building, which blocks some of the sun.
5. Contrary to the fact that my family thinks the garage is really a bike-storage facility, I do still use my garage as a garage for my car.
6. Still shopping for my air compressor.
7. Yep, I do this. Just had my 30,000-mile tune-up last December.
8. Oooops. I need to do this.
9. Covered.
10. I don't skimp on maintenance. In fact, I believe that maintaining your stuff is a great way to SAVE money.
Wow, I'm kind of happy with these results. I wasn't aware that I was doing so well on so many of these.
However, I didn't do as well on the 20 Ways to Save Money on Your Car. Check out the post if you want more tips on saving on gas and want to see where I have some significant room for improvement. ;-)
I will have to admit that I am not doing all of those things on the list. I'm a bit lazy when it comes to taking care of my car. Although I make sure to change the oil on time. The way gas prices are going these days any help with how to keep gas costs dowm is a help.
