I've written how you can increase the value of your house with simple landscaping tricks and how trees, in particular, are good at raising the value of your house. However, there are other benefits from trees that can save you some money. Namely:
Trees (and shrubs) provide shade in the summer (which reduces cooling costs) and help block cold winds in the winter (especially pine trees).
In addition, trees add beauty to your property, muffle street noise, and clean the air. What's not to love?
We're fortunate to live in a house with a wooded lot in the back and good trees on the sides and front. Most of our neighbors are envious of our "woods" (not really that big, but it's Sherwood Forest compared to what others have) and we not only enjoy the benefits of increased property value and cost savings, but also love the beauty of our "secluded" sanctuary in our back yard.
Of course, trees don't grow overnight. So if you think you're going to be in your house for some time, consider adding some trees to the property. They'll increase your home's value, save you some money, and make the house much more enjoyable.
