Here's a very, very interesting book targeted to a unique, large, and growing audience.
Imagine this: a ba-zillion baby boomers will be retiring over the next couple decades. Many (if not most) of them include couples where the husband worked and the wife was at home. Well, all of a sudden, the husband doesn't have to work (translation: he has no where to go every morning.) Think there might be some adjustment issues? You bet your bippy!
And that's just the dynamic that Retired with Husband: Superwoman's New Challenge is written to address. Here's what the book says it's about (regarding the issue of dealing with retirement):
Together, the couple meet specific challenges through specific strategies in order to:
- survive the transition into retirement by taking charge of their time and their home-management activities (laundry, cooking, cleaning...)
- improve communication with their parents, with their children, and with their friends
- reengineer their lifestyle by choosing wellness, agreeing to take risks for the good of others, and finding their giftedness
- find new ways to combine work and retirement while seeking continuous improvement
And this is EXACTLY what the book delivers -- in a fun, often hilarious writing style that many people will find enjoyable.
Not everything was roses and cute bunnies, though. The book had a few negatives for me including:
- It's written more for women than for men. In fact, guys, if you see your wife considering this book, you may want to hide it (or offer to buy her jewelry immediately -- anything to distract her) or else you could find your retirement chained to the dishwasher/washing machine. ;-)
- I'm not big on the combination of personal finances and humor, so after awhile the cuteness got to me.
- I don't really need this book now -- it's not written for me.
That said, if you're a woman who has a husband who is soon to retire, this book is perfect for you.
The Free Money Finance rating for Retired with Husband: Superwoman's New Challenge (based on my 0 thru 10 rating system) is: 6 Stars.
