Here are some thoughts from the book The Net Worth Workout: A Powerful Program for a Lifetime of Financial Fitness (see my rating for details) on the link between sports and finances:
In competitive sports, there's a direct link between vision, persistence, and success. The exact same principles that work to help an athlete push herself to victory could help people push themselves toward greater prosperity.
That's what the book is about -- taking things pertinent to sports and applying them to finances. It works for a bit, but then gets annoying (though I did like the book overall.)
BTW, one thing I'd add to "vision, persistence, and success" -- discipline. But no one wants to talk about that. ;-)
