Here are some thoughts from the GREAT book on medical tourism titled Patients Beyond Borders: Everybody's Guide to Affordable, World-Class Medical Tourism on how big medical tourism is currently:
At least 28 countries on four continents cater to the international health traveler, with more than a million patients visiting hospitals and clinics each year in countries other than their own.
So, if 1 million people are traveling and costs are $10,000 per trip (probably on the low side), we're already looking at a $10 billion industry! And how much would this work have cost in the US? Maybe $20 billion or more.
More and more people are going to consider traveling for healthcare a viable option in the future. Will you be one of them?
