Last Sunday in It's Biblical to Do Your Work with Excellence I asked if anyone had any work-related verses to add to the two I listed. Several were submitted, and I thought it would be nice to list them for everyone to review. Here they are:
- Let everyone be sure that he is doing his very best, for then he will have the personal satisfaction of work well done, and won't need to compare himself with someone else." Galatians 6:4, Living Bible
- Whatever your hand finds to do, do with all your might... Ecclesiastes 9:10, NIV
- He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment. Proverbs 12:11, NIV
- All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. Proverbs 14:23, NIV
- The sluggard's craving will be the death of him, because his hands refuse to work. Proverbs 21:25, NIV
- Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, buy hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. Proverbs 21:5, NLT
Any others out there?
Nice list. I always love to see how people look for answers in so many different places (books, TV shows, blogs), but the basics you need to live a good life can always be found in the Bible. Even for non-religious folks, you can't deny the wisdom in what is listed there.

Colossians 3:22 - "Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord." (NIV)

I keep this verse posted on my monitor at work:
2 Chronicles 15:7
"But you, be strong and do not lose courage, for there is reward for your work."

"My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, if you have struck hands in pledge for another,...
Allow no sleep to your eyes, no slumber to your eyelids.
Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.
Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander, no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest."
Proverbs 6:1-8 (NIV)
Basic premise, get out debt and save!

“Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward" (1 Peter 2:18).
“And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished. Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money” (Exodus 21:20-21).
"Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ" (Ephesians 6:5).
“A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer” (Proverbs 29:19).
"Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids” (Leviticus 25:44).
“And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye’s sake. And if he smite out his manservant’s tooth, or his maidservant’s tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth’s sake” (Exodus 21:26-27).

God's will is that man work (1 Timothy 5:8; Genesis 2:15; Exodus 20:9). In fact, Jesus said "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.” It seems to me that if Jesus and God are both working, the Lord wants mankind to work. I believe God's will is zero unemployment. It is man's greed and disobedience which has created an unemployment issue (i.e. businesses moving their companies to foreign countries for cheap labor). To those of you currently unemployed, be of good cheer. God knows right now your start date, the name of the company you will be working for, your job title, your starting wage and your supervisor's name. He will move the job from the unseen realm to the seen realm in His perfect timing! Nothing can stop God's will from unfolding! However, you must do your part for God to do His part. You must look for a job and keep in constant prayer. If you seek employment, God will honor His Word and place you into a job! Amen!
