One component of personal finances that often gets thrust aside in our quest for more and more is a spirit of thankfulness. I'm talking about being thankful for what we already have -- both financially and non-financially (such as our health, family, etc.) I'm sure it's not surprising to most of you that the Bible has a lot to say about being thankful, and I thought it was appropriate to share some of these verses on this Sunday after Thanksgiving. In particular, I'm going to focus on what the Bible says about giving thanks for others. Here are some examples:
- I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. 1 Corinthians 1:4
- I thank my God every time I remember you. Philippians 1:3
- We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you. Colossians 1:3
- We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. 1 Thessalonians 1:2
- I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers. Philemon 1:4
- I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. Ephesians 1:16
Think of the people in your life this Thanksgiving and be sure to tell them how thankful you are for them.
After reading this list, it seems that Paul valued the spiritual life more than the physical life.
Maybe because the spiritual life is eternal?

I know this isn't specific to this post, but I thought you might be interested in this WSJ article (linking to the Digg posting, since I don't think a direct link to WSJ would let you read the full article).
