Yahoo lists the one question your resume must answer as follows:
Hiring managers are looking for one element that will make them stand up and take notice of a candidate. That one element is a strong benefit to the employer. When you provide an employer benefit, you speak their language. They want to know more. Unfortunately, too many resumes lack this.
I have a few thoughts on these comments:
1. If I was asked what one question a resume should answer, I'd say "why should we hire you?" Stated alternatively: "why can you do a great job for our company?" I guess this is mostly the same, though slightly different, than what Yahoo is saying.
2. Yes, to be successful, you HAVE to develop a resume that talks about how you can solve problems (provide a benefit) for an employer. Otherwise, why would they want to hire you?
3. I agree that too many resumes lack focus on the employer. Many of them are about me, me, and me. This is the WRONG focus -- though a common problem.
