The Monster Blog list five things a bad job can teach you as follows:
- You Can Survive a Bad Situation
- Your Relationship with Your Boss Largely Controls Your Destiny at a Particular Job
- Having a Bad Job Will Make You Vet Future Opportunities More Carefully
- Weekends Are Precious
- Quit the Right Way
A few thoughts and these and the whole bad job/job-hunting issue:
1. Having a bad job is better than having no job at all. Think of it this way: "eating is better than not eating."
2. Yep, a bad boss can make your life miserable.
3. There certainly is a right way to leave a job -- even a bad one.
4. Always keep your resume at least somewhat updated. And be sure your resume is written correctly, answering the one key question all potential employers ask.
5. Your network is vital to career success. Work on it even if you love your job. You'll be thankful you did if you start to hate your job.
6. Furthermore, you should always be at least somewhat prepared to leave any job, even if you love what you're doing now (you never know when a new boss could come in and ruin it all.)
We'll end this post on that pleasant note. ;-)
They forgot this one:
Having a bad job can easily destroy your non-work life.

I like to think that I learn a lot from a bad boss about how to treat people and get the job done when it becomes my time to lead. I take notes from bad bosses and then promise myself to do things different and better.
