Maybe one of the only times I can actually give you advice. I went to Macy's to buy something a few weeks ago. Yeah, they suck and are overpriced. Lets not get into the details, but the girlfriend was involved and therefore financial wisdom was promptly defenestrated with reckless abandon. In other words, I didn't really have a choice in the matter.

Anyway, perform the following sequence:
1. Buy item.

2. Ask them about a $10 purchasing card (not sure if that's the right name for it). You're eligible to get one if you spend something like $50 or more. Its like a gift card but you have to spend it that day. Also, there is a whole list of things on the back that you can't spend it on. Pretty much anything in the store. But there is one thing you can spend it on. Chocolate!

3. Go to the gourmet chocolate section (hopefully your store has one). Buy chocolate! I got some really nice truffles for about $1.50. Which the girlfriend promptly took so I didn't even get a chance to enjoy. :(

Why not abuse your readers and offer it as a giveaway?

I had a $25 gift card from Macy's....couldn't find anything I wanted---or was reasonably priced that I could afford. So, I ended up in the candy department and got a $25 box of chocolates that became a Christmas present. Nice to know that someone else had the same plan to beat these guys!

FMF,

Time to set aside your time consuming bargain shopping and go on a shopping spree. Take the family, get something nice for everyone. Those bankruptcy filings pop up quickly, and once they do, the gift card is done.

I think you're right. Off to the mall this weekend!!!!!!

Anyone who thinks Macy's is going bankrupt or not honoring gift cards anytime in the near future simply has an axe to grind or isn't paying attention. The layoffs account for 4% of Macy's work force. Woah, looks like that ship is sinking. Microsoft recently announced layoffs of 6% of their workers, better switch to Mac before Microsoft goes under.

It sounds pretty silly.

FMF - You know I'm your biggest web fan but this time I need to share a little something with you...Get over it dude!. Spend the gift card, get it out of your wallet and then you won't have to be reminded that you're irritated with Macy's. Sometimes you just need to give up. You'll feel 10 lbs lighter. Of course, Macy's has been a good source of material for you.

Still your biggest web fan -

Norma

FMF, I'd be very curious to know why you hate Macy's so much. Is it personal? Bad prior experience? If anything, I would think that your true disdain would go to ultra high end retailers like Neiman Marcus, Dillard's, Bloomingdale's, Saks, Nordstrom's, not to mention Chanel, Louis, Gucci, etc., etc. Compared to them Macy's is like the Ford Focus of retailers. So why Macy's?
