Here we go with the first round of Free Money Finance March Money Madness (if you wonder what's going on in these posts, see my article announcing March Money Madness and/or click on my March Money Madness category link and scroll down to read all the posts involved in this subject.)
I've listed each "game" (one post versus another) in segments along with the wording provided by the author when the post was submitted. I've also listed a keyword after each post title to make it easy to vote (as a made-up example, you can just comment: Game 1 - Saving; Game 2 - Investing, etc.) Be sure to comment which one you like the best out of each set of two -- you will help determine the winner! Criteria for the best article is somewhat subjective, but you can use these factors as a guide: 1) practicality of the post 2) how interesting/provocative/unique it is, 3) the "personal-ness" of it and 4) its impact on net worth.
Here are today's games:
GAME 25
- How to Pilot Through a Financial Crisis Like Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger (Pilot) - Through the heroics of Captain Sully Sullenberger we can learn a lot about how to hand money. Difficult times will surely come our way, but we can overcome these challenges if we are prepared, stay calm, and like Sully, make good decisions.
VERSUS
- Rethinking the Net Worth Statement (Rethinking) - This post challenges readers to broaden their definition of net worth, encouraging them to see that certain "expenses" they incurred actually increased their true wealth. A memorable trip undoubtedly enhanced their "experiential net worth," providing good memories that will last for many years to come. An investment class they took may have increased their "emotional net worth," leaving them feeling more financially confident. In essence, net worth includes much more than what shows up on the bottom line.
GAME 26
- How to Care (Not Worry) About Your Finances (Care) - 2009 was a big year for financial worry: jobs were lost, 401(k) retirement plans were way down. It was scary. In this article I explain how you can worry less and do more about your finances by taking the time to care.
VERSUS
- How to Build Confidence and Destroy Fear (Confidence) - Without self-confidence, we have a tendency to make poor decisions. We make choices based on fear instead of what is best for us. If you lack confidence, you might fill your life with self-destructive behavior: You might work at a job you hate, you may allow yourself to get deep in debt, you may find yourself moving from one bad relationship to another. Without confidence, you don’t allow yourself to pursue your dreams. But by facing your fears head-on, by taking action, you have the ability to build confidence and to destroy fear.
