Hindsight will be 20 20. I guess we will know in the future if you should have sold or not. I've been looking into alternatives to stocks lately though, I am starting to realize that i need investments that have guarantees and no risk.

Sell and May and stay away has different behavior during bull and bear markets.

I don't buy into the "Sell in May and Stay Away" concept. Seeing that it has done well historically is not enough for me. I would need to see a logical case for WHY that is the historical reality that I found persuasive.

So to summarize:

Trying to time the market is essentially gambling. Historical trends may help, but there are no sure things.

Rebalance regularly.

My one line summary: invest in lifecycle/target-date funds and be done with it.
