The way I have always interpreted verses like the ones you shared today is this: you can enjoy life, but you must also embrace responsibility. Look at the people that have one lotteries and ended up bankrupt. Many would think they had it all. However, what they lacked was possibly education, foresight, and patience. Maybe they spent it all on pleasures, who knows. However, I don't think God would resent any millionaire that carefully cared for their money, was responsible, etc. Wealth is not evil. However, it is what you do with that wealth and how you manage it that is more telling.

This post is long but worth the read. Well researched and balanced. I think you hit the nail on the head.

Thanks Keith. (author of Christ-Centered Contentment here). I think the key is what you mentioned- balance. There are a lot of biblical truths that involve holding two things in balance. A sort of "tug-o-war" between two distortions (in this case asceticism and the prosperity gospel). Often I find that Christians lean one way or the other, when the truth is right in the middle. There is a really cool quote from some old theologian about how Christ was crucified between two thieves and the truth of the gospel is always found in the middle of two erring extremes. I can't remember it word for word, or who said it!, but is a cool quote.

Why is it that was once called covetousness was then called greed, then materialism, and today they call convetousness, good management?

Why is that one hundred years ago most had 7 "needs" and 70 wants and today they have 70 "needs" and 700 wants?

Progressive or destructive?

"Behold! these are the wicked, they prosper in the world, they increase in riches!"

It remains as was promised, "evil men and seducers will wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived!"

"Come Out of her, MY people"!

"Come Out" of this world and it's systems of religion for "the WHOLE world is under the control of the evil one" indeed and Truth.......

Let the suffering begin, for "Love suffers long".......

Father Help! and HE does.......

Truth IS, a lie never was and is not.......

Abide in Truth....... francis
