Personally, I think that some portions of how taxes work should be required teaching in high school / college. I have so many friends that have not even the slightest idea how deductions work and end up making major life decisions around what they THINK the tax law is.

For instance, before I bought my own house I had many friends buying houses for the "tax break" and trying to tell me how I was throwing money away and how I would be paying less taxes if I only bought a house.
